UI/UX Designer
Searching for an exceptionally talented and passionate UI/ UX Designer will be responsible for all interface and experience aspects of an unannounced, Our Brilliant Ruin video game title using UE5.
Overview:
Studio Hermitage is currently looking for a UI/ UX Designer to join our growing team! Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States of America and ideally located in North Carolina, but remote will also be considered as long as they are within the EST or CST zones. You must have video game UI/UX experience to be considered for this role, preferably using the Unreal Engine.
Studio Hermitage is a North Carolina-based transmedia company working on original IP called "Our Brilliant Ruin" for production across various formats. The company is funded and part of Amplifier Game Invest and the Embracer Group family of companies. Studio Hermitage’s founders include CEO Paxton Galvanek (ex-Funcom), CCO Justin Achilli (ex-Paradox, ex-Ubisoft/ Red Storm), and Studio Art Director Andy Foltz (ex-Ubisoft/ Red Storm) and include 70+ years of their combined industry experience.
Our team at Studio Hermitage is searching for an exceptionally talented and passionate UI/ UX Designer with single-player UI/ UX experience who will be responsible for all interface and experience aspects of an unannounced, Our Brilliant Ruin video game title using UE5.
Responsibilities:
- This is a hands-on, in-engine role working with UE5.
- Create intuitive and visually appealing UI elements, including menus, HUDs, buttons, and icons.
- Communicate and present your design ideas, user flows, wireframes, and specification documentation to the team.
- Ensure consistency in design across different screens and game sections.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of designers, artists, programmers, and producers to build and integrate UI content & assets seamlessly into the game to develop an ideal User Experience.
- Create wireframes and mockups to visualize UI layouts and interactions and prototype UI elements to test functionality and iterate on the design.
- Design interactive systems, such as inventory management, character customization, and quest logs, and define how players interact with in-game objects, NPCs, and menus.
- Define best practices for the discipline, from structured processes to workflow and content standards to implement content within UX/ UI.
- As an expert user, you will help test new features and tools before they are deployed to the rest of the team.
- Validate, playtest, and respond to feedback
Qualifications:
- At least 3+ years of experience as a UI/ UX designer, artist or programmer.
- Have shipped at least 1 AA/ AAA title as a UI/ UX designer.
- Experience with Unreal Engine, UMG, and Widget Blueprint.
- Experience with Figma, Visio, Miro, or other similar tools for wireframing and collaboration.
- A high-level comprehension of user psychology and behavior: how and why users interact with game affordances.
- Thorough understanding of how to design and optimize UX/ UI systems, features, and player experiences.
- Proven ability to conceptualize, create, and implement game concepts using various tools, technology, and visual language.
- Excellent creative, analytical, and organizational skills with proven ability to write, communicate, and maintain detailed design documentation throughout the project life cycle.
- Demonstrative proof of an open-minded, progressive thinker who is flexible, energetic, and driven
- Has the ability to overcome obstacles and challenges with working solutions.
- A deep understanding of UX/ UI trends across multiple genres and platforms.
- Can rapidly prototype and feels comfortable in a highly iterative workflow/ process.
- Is highly communicative and collaborative.
